But the fact of the matter is that if your intentions are pure and you are making your best effort do to what you believe is correct, then your prayers are in order. Allah does not fault anyone for lack of knowledge if he has done his best to obtain this knowledge. Since there are conflicting schools, the individual worshipper must do as he thinks proper.

The thing is that there are five schools of thought in Islam, four Sunni and one Shi’a. One of the Sunni schools and of course the Shi’a school say that holding your hands at your sides during prayer is correct, while the others maintain that holding your hands in front is correct.
